01 — The system

Successful, predictable and reproducible results

First with 7 tangential radii

The Freedom Total Knee® System is the first USFDA-approved knee system with 7 tangential radii, resulting in excellent implant-to-bone fit.

Optimal high flexion

Developed using advanced design engineering technologies, the system’s unique design allows patients to achieve optimal high-flexion motion.

Conservative bone resection

Compared to general knee replacement procedures, the system requires minimal bone cutting and enables a more conservative bone resection.

Customisable sizing

Its intuitive design offers surgeons the freedom to customise size options to better fit the implants to the patient’s knee.

02 — Design rationale

Coordinate articular geometry of the natural femur

The Freedom femoral design is based on functional principles of progressive multi-radii patello-femoral and tibio-femoral contact areas.

01

7 tangent radii

Radii 1, 2 and 3 ensure optimized patella-femoral contact. Radii 4, 5, 6 and 7 control femoral rollback and flexion over a wide array of biomechanical requirements, from walking to climbing stairs.

02

Smooth extensor mechanism

7 radii along with a thin anterior flange and a 6-degree deep trochlear groove facilitate predictable patello-femoral tracking — helping to reduce anterior knee pain.

03

Increased femoral rollback

A multi-radii design gives predictable femoral rollback, allowing high flexion up to 155 degrees for various daily and social activities.

04

Asymmetrical post-cam mechanism

A modified post-cam mechanism allows rotation up to 15 degrees at deep flexion, preventing post-cam impingement and reducing wear and tear of the poly.

05

Prevention of edge loading

Freedom Knee concentrates load towards the centre of the poly at deep flexion, rather than at the condylar edges.

06

Minimised micro motion in tibia

A 5-point locking mechanism and an optimized inside surface roughness averaging 11 µin reduce back-side wear in the tibial tray, improving durability.

07

Bone conservation

A thin anterior flange, low-profile box and multi-radii design minimise posterior condylar resection, resulting in maximum bone conservation.

08

Locking system and materials

5-point cobalt chrome tibial locking system with 3-degree and 30 mm keel; ram-extruded poly UHMWPE, GUR 1020. Both CR and PS tibial inserts share identical locking mechanisms to mate.

09

Modularity and compatibility

CR and PS femurs, metal-backed tibial trays and inserts — with compatibility of a 2-size mix and match in critical sizes.

03 — Global shape and sizing

Optimal A-P to M-L ratios for global patients
